Members of Health Sector Reform Commission have met Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain and pledged full cooperation in future to improve the health system.
The members led by Professor AK Azad Khan talked about implementing the recommendations of the commission’s report.
The meeting was held on Thursday at the conference room of the Ministry of Health in the Secretariat.
However, they said that they are ready to extend full cooperation to ensure accountability, safety and people‑oriented services.
It was noted that many of the important suggestions and recommendations given earlier by the BNP Standing Committee to the commission were incorporated in the report.
Views of doctors, public health experts, administrative officials, researchers, health workers and other professionals were also reflected.
The members urged for increased budget allocation to strengthen and effectively implement primary health care, saying a strong primary system would significantly reduce disease burden, treatment costs and pressure on tertiary hospitals.
They added that several recommendations of the commission align with BNP’s health manifesto, particularly on reforms, digital health, accountability, doctors’ safety and service quality.
The health minister expressed optimism, telling the members the government will gradually take steps to implement these important recommendations.
Health Sector Reform Commission Member and Chairman of Clinical Oncology at Bangladesh Medical University Professor Syed Akram Hossain, along with Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Professor Liaquat Ali, MM Reza, Azharul Islam and other members were present.
The Commission was formed during the interim government and submitted its recommendations to the authorities.
