Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain on Friday night carried out a sudden inspection at the Munshiganj 250-bed General Hospital and ordered disciplinary action against the civil surgeon and two others over alleged irregularities.
During the visit around 8pm, the minister identified what he described as administrative lapses and the submission of inaccurate information at the hospital.
He immediately directed the removal of Civil Surgeon Kamrul Zaman Jamadar and Typist-cum-Computer Operator Md Mizan.
He also ordered the removal of Hospital Superintendent Ahamed Kabir, stating that further departmental action would be taken against him.
Speaking during the inspection, the minister said several irregularities were observed in hospital management and service delivery.
He did not elaborate on specific findings but indicated that accountability measures would be enforced.
Referring to the country’s measles vaccination programme, the minister said no nationwide awareness campaign had been conducted since December 2020, which he claimed had contributed to a decline in immunisation coverage. He alleged that negligence over previous years had led to gaps in routine vaccination, resulting in a resurgence of measles cases.
He further said the government has already launched a nationwide measles vaccination drive. Initially introduced in 30 upazilas, the programme has now been expanded nationwide since 20 April, and the minister expressed hope that the situation would soon come under control.
Earlier, the minister attended a review meeting on healthcare services in Munshiganj. The meeting was attended by Munshiganj-2 MP Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Deputy Commissioner Nur Mahal Ashrafi, Superintendent of Police Md Menhazul Alam, and senior officials of the health administration.
