The vehicle of Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Masum Mustafa was vandalised and he was for a short time detained during an incident in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at the Atkapara petrol pump on the Birishiri road, where the MP had reportedly stopped to refuel.

According to local sources, a group of unidentified individuals suddenly attacked his vehicle and damaged it before confining him at the scene.

Local Jamaat leaders alleged that the attack was carried out without warning and that the MP was held for a short period before being rescued.

Following the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tasneen Jahan and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Didarul Islam went to the spot and brought the situation under control. The lawmaker was later rescued and taken to safety.

However, the Jamaat MP alleged that BNP activists were involved in the attack, claiming that his vehicle was first vandalised and then he was assaulted. He said the matter was immediately reported to the local administration, which intervened to secure his release.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of those involved. Police said an investigation is underway, and efforts are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Tension reportedly prevailed in the area following the attack.
