The High Court has directed a recount of votes in the Bagerhat-1 parliamentary constituency, encompassing Chitalmari, Mollahat, and Fakirhat upazilas, in the 13th national parliamentary election.
The directive was issued on Thursday, 5 March, during the hearing of an election petition filed by BNP candidate Kapil Krishna Mondal. The proceedings were conducted before Election Tribunal Judge Justice Md Zakir Hossain. Lawyers Gazi Mostak Ahmed and Khondoker Hasanul Alam represented the petitioner.
Khandakar Hasanul Alam confirmed the court’s order to Times.
Md Moshiur Rahman Khan of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami had been declared the winner in the constituency.
Contesting the outcome, Mondal alleged irregularities and submitted a petition before the High Court’s Election Tribunal, which subsequently issued the recount order.
