The High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ petition seeking the suspension of the 50th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examination scheduled for 30 January.
With the petition rejected, there is no legal obstacle to holding the exam on Friday.
A HC bench of Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Md Anowarul Islam issued the order on Thursday afternoon following the hearing of the writ petition.
Deputy Attorney General Noor Muhammad Azmi said that with the dismissal of the writ petition, there is no legal impediment to holding the preliminary examination Friday.
The writ was filed on Wednesday by advocate Nazmus Sakib on behalf of the candidates, requesting that the court order a stay on the preliminary test of the 50th BCS due to the election period.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) published the notification for the 50th BCS on its website on 26 November last year. The application process began on 4 December and concluded on 31 December.
According to the BPSC notification, the 50th BCS preliminary examination will be held simultaneously across eight centres – Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh – from 10am to 12pm on Friday.
The exam venue, seating arrangements and other important instructions will be published in due course on the commission’s website (www.bpsc.gov.bd) and the Teletalk Bangladesh Limited portal (http://bpsc.teletalk.com.bd).
