Josh Hazlewood broke Bangladesh’s 102-run second-wicket partnership by dismissing Mominul Haque for 49 as Bangladesh reached 138 for two after 39.2 overs against Australia in Darwin.
Hazlewood bowled slightly fuller and wider, tempting Mominul into a drive through the off side. The Bangladesh batter found a thick outside edge, and Alex Carey completed the catch.
Mominul walked back one run short of his fifty after sharing a century stand with Tanzid Hasan. The partnership also moved close to Bangladesh’s highest Test partnership in Australia, the 108-run second-wicket stand between Habibul Bashar and Hannan Sarkar in Cairns in 2003.
Tanzid had earlier reached his first Test fifty and then produced Bangladesh’s first six of the innings. He charged down the pitch against Beau Webster and lifted the ball over long-off.
Tanzid remains Bangladesh’s key batter after the breakthrough, with Australia now looking to exploit the opening Hazlewood created.
