The key suspect involved in the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 and spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha, is still in the country.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md Nazrul Islam made the disclosure during a press briefing on Sunday. He revealed that the passports of the suspected attackers on Osman Hadi have been blocked.
According to the immigration database, they have not fled the country.
Nazrul mentioned that two individuals, responsible for getting the attackers across border, have already been arrested.
“We are working with the information gathered from these arrestees,” the DMP official added. However, he mentioned that no case has been filed yet as the family members are currently occupied with the treatment of victim Hadi.
“If the family does not file the case by Sunday, the police will file it as the plaintiff,” he said.
Nazrul also confirmed that three individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. One of them is the owner of the motorcycle used in the attack, while the other two are involved in illegal border crossing operations.
They are being interrogated to gather more information. “Any new information will be shared in due course,” he added.
In response to a question, he stated, “It is not just one July warrior, but thousands of July warriors. It is not possible to provide security for all of them, but high-risk individuals will be given the necessary security.”
