Law Adviser Asif Nazrul on Monday said the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi will be tried under the Speedy Trial Tribunal.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday afternoon, Asif Nazrul said the trial would proceed in accordance with the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002.
Citing Section 10 of the law, he said the trial must be concluded within a maximum of 90 days following the submission of the police investigation report.
Meanwhile, Inqilab Mancha has warned of continued street protests until the completion of the trial. The organisation held a press conference at Shahbagh in the capital on Monday, reiterating its demands.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber alleged that the Ministry of Home Affairs was treating the murder lightly. He demanded a clear assurance that the trial would be completed before the election.
The organisation also called for the formation of a tribunal within 24 hours and said international assistance, including involvement of the FBI if necessary, should be sought to ensure a credible investigation.
