A Dhaka court has asked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit an investigation report by 19 April in a case filed over the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after the CID failed to submit the report on Thursday.
Sub-Inspector Md Ruknuzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Prosecution Division confirmed the development.
Earlier, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch filed a charge sheet against 17 individuals on 6 January.
On 15 January, the complainant, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber submitted his objection, after which the court directed CID to conduct further investigation.
According to the case, Hadi had been serving as spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, a political and cultural platform formed after the July uprising.
On 12 December, at around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle shot Hadi near Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station. He sustained gunshot wounds to his head and below the right ear and was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital.
On 15 December, he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, but succumbed to his injuries on 18 December.
Following the attack, Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case on 14 Decembe, which was later converted into a murder case.
