Two accused in the murder case of Osman Hadi, spokesperson for the Inquilab Moncho, Sanjay Chisim and Mohammad Faisal, have delivered confessional statements before a Dhaka court.
On Thursday, Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer of the case and an inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, presented the accused to the court after a three-day remand.
Since the accused voluntarily agreed to provide confessional testimony, the investigating officer requested the court to record their statements.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam subsequently recorded their testimony.
Following this, the accused were sent to jail, as confirmed by SI Rukunuzzaman of the prosecution department.
Miah Mohammad Ashis Bin Hassan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) prosecution department, stated, “The two accused were presented in court today. Their confessions were recorded after a lengthy process. They have provided significant information in their testimony.”
On 15 December, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) announced the arrest of Sanjay Chisim and Civion Diu for questioning.
After interrogation, both were arrested in connection with the case on 18 December, and the police sought seven-day remand for them. The court granted a three-day remand for both accused.
On 21 December, the court extended the remand by five days. After two rounds of remand, they were sent to jail on 26 December.
On 30 December, the court granted another three-day remand, and Sanjay provided confessional testimony in court. Civion Diu remains in remand.
Meanwhile, on 16 December, a team from RAB-11, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid at the front of Mollah’s house near Tarua Bill in Narsingdi’s Sadar area and arrested Faisal. During the raid, firearms and ammunition used in the murder of Osman Hadi were recovered from the water.
Faisal was later arrested in an arms case and sent to jail. On 30 December, he was granted a three-day remand in the Hadi murder case.
On 14 December, Abdullah Al Jaber, Secretary of Inquilab Moncho, filed an attempted murder case. Later, section 302 was added to the case. A total of 12 accused have been arrested in the case.
The accused include Faisal’s father Mohammad Humayun Kabir, mother Hasi Begum, his wife Saheda Parveen Samiya, girlfriend Maria Akter Lima, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, rent-a-car businessman Mufti Mohammad Nuruzzaman Nomani aka Ujjal, Faisal’s accomplice Mohammad Kabir, Civion Diu and Sanjay Chisim, Aminul Islam Raju, and Faisal.
Earlier, on 12 December, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot while in an auto-rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. The shots were fired from a moving motorcycle. After receiving immediate treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital in Basundhara.
On 15 December, Hadi was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he passed away on the night of 18 December.
