While speaking to journalists on Thursday, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that he was optimistic about the interim government delivering free and safe elections.

At a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy after a meeting of the Advisory Council, the press secretary said, “I hope the interim government will deliver a good election. Voters will be enthusiastic regarding the referendum.”

“Whatever is necessary is being done accordingly,” he added.

Shafiqul went on to say that he had not seen any chaos or agitation on 29 December, the last day for candidates to submit their nominations, stating, “I did not see any disorder that day. Nor were the nominations any fewer.”

Noting that Bangladeshi voters are sufficiently aware, the press secretary said, “The government is running a campaign on the referendum issue. Vote caravans are currently touring the entire country.”
