The government will examine allegations of Tk12,000 crore in corruption during the tenure of the interim government, Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks while responding to a question from journalists at the regular weekly briefing at the Secretariat.
Zahed Ur Rahman said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is responsible for investigating corruption and would take action against those found responsible.
He said. “Two groups could be involved in the alleged Tk12,000 crore corruption—government officials and advisers who served during the interim administration.”
“I am not saying the advisers committed corruption. Nor am I saying they did not,” Zahed Ur Rahman added.
Responding to another question about reports of flags bearing Arabic flags being flown simultaneously across different parts of the country, the adviser said the government is looking into the matter as it has spread widely.
Asked whether the government had any involvement in the incident, he said it had no connection with the display of the flags.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs is investigating the matter, adding that the widespread nature of the incident suggests there could be a significant reason behind it.
Zahed Ur Rahman also said the display of such flags could raise questions about Bangladesh’s image in the international community.
