Education Adviser Professor CR Abrar said the interim government is sincerely working to achieve the anticipated outcomes in implementing the spirit of the July–August uprising.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a programme titled “July–August Uprising: Spirit of the Past, Guiding Path for the Future,” organised by the Bangladesh Scouts Rover Region at Eden Women’s College in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Professor Abrar highlighted the role of Rover Scouts in realising the ideals of the July uprising, noting their contributions not only to humanitarian work but also to addressing social inequalities. He expressed hope that they would continue playing an active role in upholding the uprising’s spirit.
National University Vice-Chancellor and President of the Bangladesh Scouts Rover Region Professor ASM Amanullah announced that the National University would prioritise employment opportunities for family members of students who lost their lives during the July–August uprising.
He noted that the university, in collaboration with the July Foundation, has already provided Tk8 lakh each to the families of 33 martyred students from affiliated colleges.
Prof Amanullah added that 10 of the uprising’s martyrs were Rover Scouts, demonstrating that they contribute not only to humanitarian service but also rise to the occasion in critical national moments.
He also revealed plans to activate Rover Scout and Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) programs in nearly 2,500 educational institutions under the National University, emphasising that these initiatives would help restore discipline in campuses.
During the event, parents of martyred Rover Scouts shared their grief and sacrifices. Jannatul Ferdous, mother of Nilphamari Rover Scout Rajibul Karim; Shafiqul Islam, father of Manikganj Rover Scout Afikul Islam; and Golam Rahman, father of Dhaka Rover Scout Golam Nafiz, voiced their anger over the injustices faced by their children.
The program honored the families of the 10 Rover Scouts who died during the July–August uprising. Prizes were also awarded to Rover Scouts who secured first, second, and third places in six events organised as part of the month-long commemorative program marking July–August 2024.
