Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan has expressed expectations to expand technical co-operation with Norway to render Bangladesh’s local government system more effective and robust.
He said this during a meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Arald Gulbrandsen at his Secretariat office in Dhaka.
Discussions during the meeting covered a range of key issues, including the local government framework, upcoming local government elections, technical assistance across various development projects, and measures to increase women’s participation in local governance.
Addressing the meeting, the minister highlighted that necessary co-operation and technical support are critical to strengthening local government systems.
He noted that Norway’s experience across diverse fields could prove beneficial for Bangladesh, whilst again emphasising the importance of boosting women’s participation in local administration.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy Alexander Falck-Bilden, Political Adviser Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury, Local Government Division Additional Secretary Abu Nasar Mohammad Abdullah, along with other senior officials of the ministry.
