The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a 12-point directive to government officials and employees, instructing them to be frugal in the use of energy during office hours. The instructions were communicated via a statement sent by the ministry on Sunday.
According to the directives, government officials and employees must mandatorily remain in their respective offices from 9am to 9:40am. Care must be taken when scheduling official programmes to ensure that this specific timeframe is not disrupted.
Regarding energy efficiency, the ministry stated that natural light should be utilised whenever sufficient daylight is available by keeping windows, doors, or blinds open.
During office hours, only the necessary number of lights, fans, air conditioners, and other electrical appliances should be operated. Furthermore, air conditioners must be maintained at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius or higher.
The guidelines further stipulate that all electrical equipment, including lights, fans, and air conditioners, must be switched off when leaving a room.
Unnecessary lighting in corridors, stairwells, and washrooms must be discontinued, and all devices – including computers, printers, scanners, and air conditioners – must be confirmed as turned off after office hours.
The directive also prohibits decorative lighting without specific government authorisation. In addition to energy savings, officials are required to ensure the cleanliness of office rooms, corridors, toilets, and stairways.
To ensure the implementation and monitoring of these instructions, all departments, agencies, and offices have been directed to form “Vigilance Teams.”
