Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, stated on Friday that the government has refrained from increasing fuel prices thus far due to its accountability to the public.
He noted that the fuel crisis is a global phenomenon rather than an issue unique to Bangladesh. He made these remarks this afternoon following the inauguration of a four-storey, Tk8 crore shelter project in the Char Kulaghat area of Lalmonirhat.
Addressing the energy situation, the minister warned that an “artificial crisis” is being manufactured by those unethically hoarding fuel. He detailed government conservation measures, including the cancellation of foreign trips and a 30 percent reduction in fuel supplies for government-funded allocations. He urged the public to exercise patience and cooperate to overcome these challenges.
The newly inaugurated facility is designed to serve as a flood shelter and an educational institution. The ceremony was attended by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Rashedul Haque Pradhan, Lalmonirhat zila parishad administrator AKM Mominul Haque, LGED executive engineer Md Kawser Alam, along with administrative officials, political leaders, and professionals, were present at the programme.
