Monir Hossain Chowdhury, joint secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, has said there will be no fuel crisis in the country during April.
He assured that the country is secure in terms of fuel supply this month, speaking at a press conference on the ongoing situation at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He informed that one of the six ships Iran recently released through the Strait of Hormuz is carrying crude oil. Once it arrives, there will be no shortage at Eastern Refinery Limited, the state‑owned oil refinery in Bangladesh.
He added that if hoarding is avoided, there will be no crisis.
The joint secretary urged citizens to save fuel to protect the nation, stressing that the government has not raised fuel prices, keeping people’s interests in mind.
372,388 litres of illegally stored fuel recovered
About 372,388 litres of illegally stored fuel have been recovered during the drives of energy and mineral resources division across the country.
The fuel was recovered during the mobile court drives conducted from 3 March to 1 April to ensure proper fuel management.
According to official data, 2,71,374 litres of diesel, 30,960 litres of octane and 70,054 litres of petrol were recovered during the drives.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has intensified such drives to prevent fuel hoarding and artificial fuel crisis.
Strict action is being taken against those involved in fuel hoarding through regular monitoring and mobile court drives, said sources at the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
