Authorities have formed a five-member investigation committee to probe the derailment of an oil train in Habiganj, appointing the divisional transport officer as its head.

The committee has been instructed to submit its findings within three days.

The accident occurred on Wednesday around 9pm, in Montola area of Madhabpur Upazila, causing the train to go off the tracks. The incident temporarily halted rail services connecting Sylhet with the rest of the country.

Divisional Railway Manager ABM Kamruzzaman said the oil train derailed unexpectedly.

Rescue operations are ongoing at the site, with authorities working to restore normal services.

He added that while the railway team promptly initiated recovery efforts, the exact cause of the derailment and information on any casualties have not yet been confirmed.
