Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad on Friday said the government is determined to keep essential commodity prices within control, assuring that consumers will not face undue hardship, particularly during Ramadan.
The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after arriving in his constituency, Muradnagar in Cumilla district.
“Commodity prices will not go beyond control. The government is fully committed to maintaining price stability,” he said.
He added that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the Ministry of Commerce to take necessary measures to ensure that ordinary people do not suffer due to price hikes. Expressing confidence ahead of Ramadan,
Kaikobad said the government remains vigilant to prevent any abnormal increase in the prices of daily essentials.
“The prime minister is very conscious about the well-being of the people. I believe prices will remain under control,” he said.
The minister also said the government is working to make Hajj more accessible and convenient for pilgrims. Referring to the rise in Hajj costs in recent years, he said steps would be taken to enhance services and facilities in line with the prime minister’s directives.
“We will work so that pilgrims can say they are receiving better facilities than before,” he said.
Kaikobad emphasised that ensuring the security of all religious institutions is a key responsibility of the government. He warned that any attempt to create unrest or disorder would be dealt with strictly under the law.
“We will make our utmost effort to fulfil our responsibilities. Those who attempt to create chaos will be brought under the law immediately,” he added.
Elected for the sixth time as Member of Parliament from Cumilla-3 (Muradnagar), Kaikobad visited his home constituency for the first time after taking oath and assuming charge as minister.
He was welcomed by local residents, party leaders and activists, and exchanged greetings with supporters along the way.
Kaikobad was first elected to Parliament in 1986 and previously served as State Minister for Religious Affairs in 1990.
