Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said the restoration of democratic order through a newly elected parliament and government marks a significant step forward, but stressed that meeting people’s aspirations now remains the foremost challenge.
Speaking to reporters at Shah Amanat International Airport during his first visit to Chattogram after joining the cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the minister called for collective efforts to advance development and economic progress following the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
“A democratically elected government has assumed office. The greatest challenge before us now is fulfilling the expectations of the people,” he said.
“We must move ahead through sustained development and economic growth.”
Party leaders and activists received the minister at the airport upon his arrival.
Emphasising the strategic and economic importance of the port city, Amir Khosru said Chattogram’s development is closely intertwined with that of the country as a whole.
“Development of Chattogram means development of Bangladesh,” he said, noting that an integrated and coordinated approach is essential to unlocking the region’s full potential.
When asked about plans to establish Chattogram as the country’s true commercial capital, the minister said the vision encompasses multiple sectors, including port operations, infrastructure expansion, investment promotion and job creation.
“These sectors are interconnected. We must move forward in a coordinated manner, and we are committed to working toward that goal,” he said.
According to his schedule, the minister was set to meet leaders of the Port Users’ Forum at his residence in Mehedibag at 3pm.
Earlier in the day, he exchanged views with party leaders and activists and offered Friday prayers at Madarbari Mosque.
