The government is prioritising efforts to improve service quality and eliminate mismanagement in order to make the railway more acceptable and popular among ordinary people, said State Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Railways Habibur Rashid.
He made the remark after inspecting Chattogram Railway Station around 11:30am on Friday.
Highlighting ongoing modernisation efforts, Habibur said, “Under the Prime Minister’s instructions, an initiative has been taken to launch Wi-Fi services on trains. It is currently operational on three trains on an experimental basis, and in the future, this service will be ensured across all trains in phases.”
He also said necessary directives have been issued to establish trains as a safe mode of transport.
Habibur further said, “The prime minister wants trains to remain a popular mode of transport within the reach of the general public’s purchasing power.”
“Government is working relentlessly to deliver railway services to the people’s doorsteps and to further expand the scope of services. The government also has special development plans for the Chattogram Railway Station.”
Regarding the efforts to reduce losses and make the railways profitable, he said that areas of mismanagement and wastage are being identified, and work is underway to transform the railway into a profitable organisation through the implementation of necessary measures.
Addressing concerns over ticket black marketing and glitches in the ticketing software, he said, “The matter has come to our attention, and we have held a meeting at the Railway Ministry regarding this.”
He informed that instructions have been issued to improve the software and develop the system to ensure the public has no grievances regarding tickets, effectively eliminating opportunities for black marketing or any form of corruption.
During the inspection, Habibur spoke with relevant officials and provided various directives to ensure passenger services.
