After a long break, Bollywood actor Govinda is set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Roopa. The actor announced his comeback through the film, which he is producing himself.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Govinda unveiled the first poster of Roopa at a recent press conference. At the same event, he introduced newcomer actress Rani Swarnakar as the female lead of the film.
Once one of the most popular stars of the 1990s, Govinda gradually moved away from films after several of his projects failed to meet expectations at the box office. However, the actor said he remains confident about his new journey.
At the press conference, Govinda said, “Maybe it was destiny that people kept seeing me as someone who was finished. Many used to say, ‘He will never be seen in films again.’ But every time, I started again. I pray to God that this film surpasses even my imagination and shows its own magic.”
He said Roopa has been made mainly for the younger generation. “This film is especially for young people. They should go to theatres, watch the film, learn to dream and believe that those dreams can come true one day. I do not want to say anything more about spirituality than this,” he added.
During the event, Govinda also spoke about his belief in numerology. He said the number 14 is the luckiest number in his life.
“I have always considered the number 14 lucky. I believe in numerology, and even my name was chosen according to it. I started believing in it when I was just 14 years old. By God’s grace, I signed 14 films within a week, which brought me 14 years of continuous superstardom,” Govinda said.
He added that he later became a member of the 14th Lok Sabha. However, he said the following 14 years were a period of struggle.
“This time, I did not want to wait another five years. I told myself that I had to start again. I hope this marks the beginning of my new journey,” he said.
Through Roopa, produced under his own banner, Govinda hopes to begin a new chapter in his career. He expressed hope that the film, featuring newcomer Rani Swarnakar, will help rebuild his connection with audiences.
