The Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) has once again raised gold prices, setting a new all-time high in the country. The price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,050 per bhori, bringing it to Tk 217,382- the highest rate in country’s history.
The new pricing was announced through a BAJUS press release issued on Sunday night, which stated that the revised rate will take effect from Monday.
According to the association, the latest adjustment was made in response to a rise in the price of pure (tejabi) gold in the local market and the prevailing global market situation.
Under the new pricing structure, 21-carat gold will now cost Tk 207,503 per bhori, while 18-carat gold has been set at Tk 177,853 per bhori. The price of traditional gold has been fixed at Tk 148,075 per bhori.
BAJUS also mentioned that, in addition to the selling price, buyers will have to pay a 5% government-imposed VAT. Moreover, a minimum making charge of 6%, as determined by BAJUS, will apply. The association noted that the final making charge may vary depending on the jewellery’s design and craftsmanship.
Earlier, on 14 October, BAJUS last revised gold prices, increasing the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,613 to Tk 216,332 per bhori- which, at the time, marked the highest-ever record in the nation’s gold market.
