Gold prices in the local market have increased again within three days, following a fresh announcement by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).
BAJUS said the price of gold has been raised by up to Tk1,470 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk217,067 per bhori under the new rates.
The association confirmed the price hike in a notification issued on Monday, saying the revised prices will come into effect from Tuesday.
According to BAJUS, 21-carat gold will now sell at Tk207,211 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk177,643 per bhori, while traditional-method gold has been priced at Tk147,900 per bhori.
BAJUS said a mandatory 5 percent value-added tax fixed by the government and a minimum 6 percent wage determined by the association must be added to the selling price of gold, although the wage may vary depending on the design and quality of jewellery.
Earlier, on 13 December, BAJUS last adjusted gold prices, raising the price of 22-carat gold by Tk3,452 per bhori to Tk215,597.
So far this year, BAJUS has adjusted gold prices in the local market 86 times, increasing prices on 58 occasions and reducing them 27 times.
Last year, gold prices were revised 62 times, with increases on 35 occasions and reductions on 27 occasions.
