The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized a large quantity of gold ornaments and foreign currency in two separate operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). One departing passenger was detained during the drives.
According to a CIID press release, officials acting on a tip-off seized approximately 4 kg of gold ornaments. The estimated market value of the recovered gold is around Tk4 crore.

In a separate drive, foreign currency including Euros, Pounds, and Thai Baht was seized from another passenger, with a total value exceeding Tk1 crore. The exact estimated value of the seized foreign currency stands at Tk1.59 crore.
Meanwhile, customs intelligence officials detained a Bangkok-bound passenger, identified as Al Amin Molla (Passport No: A16028818), early Thursday morning. He was scheduled to depart on US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-217.

Al Amin, a resident of Kamarkhara village of Munshiganj district, was intercepted at the holding lounge after completing his INC checking. Following a scan of his hand luggage, officials recovered 4.85 lakh Saudi Riyals and 2,110 Thai Baht.
The detained passenger is currently in customs custody, and legal proceedings are underway in accordance with existing laws. CIID officials stated that their operations to prevent smuggling and illegal money laundering will continue.
