Member of BNP’s Standing Committee Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has commented on the call for a Logi Boitha (boat-hook and oar) movement on 28 October by the activities-banned Awami League.
Responding to journalists’ questions on this matter, he said that, since democracy exists in the country and will continue to exist in the future, it is better to go to the people with demands.
The BNP leader made the remarks while participating in the Economic Reform Summit-2025 in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon. When he was leaving the event, journalists questioned the senior BNP leader on various issues.
“At this time,” he further added, “if we cannot bring change to Bangladesh’s political culture, no amount of reform will be beneficial. We must bring tolerance amongst ourselves. Even when disagreeing with others, we must respect them. We must respect their opinions.
Urging to move the country forward while maintaining a peaceful stance, Amir Khosru said, “If anyone has any demands, it is better to go to the people instead of taking to the streets. This is the rule of democracy. When there was no democracy, we took to the streets. Since democracy exists in the country and will continue to exist in the future, we must go to the people with our demands. We must come to parliament with the people’s mandate and get it passed. Not by creating chaos on the streets. Not by destroying any stability.”
The two-day summit was jointly organised by the Nagorik Coalition, Innovision, Fintech Society, BRAIN, and Voice for Reform, with the support of ActionAid and bdjobs.com.
