Activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad have staged a protest march and assembly, blocking the highway in Gazipur, in condemnation of the attack on former Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur and demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.
Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders and activists observed an hour-long blockade programme. This caused severe traffic congestion on both sides of the highway, causing hardship to passengers and transport drivers.
As part of the central programme, the party’s district and metropolitan leaders brought out a procession from Chandana Chowrasta at 5:30pm on Saturday.
When the procession reached the Vogra area, the activists started a fire on the highway, blocking it and demonstrating with various slogans. At that time, they demanded the arrest of the attackers, as well as the resignation of the home adviser and the banning of Jatiya Party.
Later, upon request from the police, the protesters lifted the blockade at 6:30pm to avoid public suffering.
