Gas cylinder blast sparks fire at Rohingya Camp: Fire Service

A gas cylinder explosion caused the fire at Rohingya Camp number 24 at Leda in Nhila union under Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, the Fire Service said on Monday.

According to the Fire Service, 113 shelters were completely burnt to ashes, and 189 shelters were partially damaged.

In addition, nine facilities belonging to various service-providing agencies working in the Rohingya camp were completely destroyed, while 13 facilities were partially damaged.

However, no casualties have been reported in the incident.

The blaze started between 9:50pm and 10:30pm on Sunday and spread across a block within moments. Later, the fire extended to at least two blocks of the adjacent Alikhali Rohingya Camp number 25.

The devastating fire in Rohingya Camps number 24 and 25 in the Leda and Alikhali areas of Nhila was brought under control around 11:30pm after nearly two hours of efforts.
