The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has reduced supply shortfall for octane and petrol in divisional cities to 15 percent, easing the previous restriction of 25 per cent.
The corporation announced the decision on Wednesday, stating it was taken to maintain fuel supply in line with public demand amidst an ongoing global energy crisis.
According to the BPC, uncertainty in global fuel supply and transport recently drove up domestic demand, resulting in long queues at filling stations in several areas.
Under the revised directive, fuel will be distributed according to specific allocation charts assigned to each filling station.
Previously, the corporation had instructed filling stations in divisional cities to reduce supply by 25 per cent based on their average sales to manage limited fuel stocks and stabilise the market.
The BPC has directed depot superintendents, sales officers, and dealers or agents of its marketing companies to take the necessary steps to ensure fuel supply aligns with the revised allocation.
Despite the eased supply cut, daily purchase limits based on vehicle categories remain in force to prevent hoarding. The corporation noted that the revised allocation was introduced to adjust supply management in consideration of the evolving situation.
