Cantonment Police under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have detained four juveniles associated with a “juvenile gang” during a raid in the capital’s Manikdi area, seizing a foreign pistol, one magazine, and two rounds of ammunition.
The information was confirmed in a press release signed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Niaz Mehedi of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Wednesday.
According to the press release, police initiated an investigation following a shooting incident in the Manikdi Amtala area at approximately 8:30pm on Tuesday. Based on secret information, four juveniles were taken into police custody.
Following their lead, the foreign pistol, magazine, and two rounds of ammunition were recovered from beneath a pile of bricks on the rooftop of a house. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the shooting occurred accidentally while the firearm was being displayed during a party.
Furthermore, the detainees had allegedly been using the weapon for various criminal activities associated with “teen gangs” for a long period.
A case has been filed under the Arms Act at Cantonment Police Station regarding the incident. Police said the children in conflict with the law have been sent to court.
