Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested four individuals and recovered counterfeit currency worth Tk40 lakh during a raid in the capital’s Shahbag area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Nafiz Ahmed, 26; Md Rahmat Ullah, 26; Yakub Ali Chowdhury, 39; and Rubel, 42.
The operation was conducted at 7:10pm on Saturday at Motalib Plaza. Acting on information that several individuals were stationed in a shop on the fifth floor of the plaza with a large quantity of fake currency, a team from Shahbagh Police Station carried out the raid.
The counterfeit notes amounting to Tk40 lakh were recovered from their possession. During primary interrogation, the suspects admitted to their long-term involvement in the counterfeit currency trade. Legal proceedings against the arrestees are currently being processed.
