Police recovered the throat-slit body of former union parishad member Musa Mia, 65, from a waterbody in Bancharampur Upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The body was found on late Sunday in Jowarar Beel of Hosenpur village under Salimabad Union.
Musa Mia, son of the late Mahmud Ali, was a former member of Ward 2 of Salimabad Union Parishad.
Family members said Musa, who operated a dredger, left home on Saturday night saying he was going to the dredger. He remained unreachable afterward.
On Sunday, locals spotted his body lying in the beel and informed the family.
Police recovered the bloodstained, throat-slit body upon arrival at the scene. The family has demanded a swift investigation and the arrest of those responsible.
Bancharampur police station officer-in-charge Hasan Jamil Khan said an inquest has been completed and the body was sent to the district hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
“We are investigating to identify who carried out the killing and why. Legal procedures are underway,” he said.
After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family. The family members are expected to file a complaint with the police after the burial, scheduled for this evening, police informed.
