Former Law Minister and senior Supreme Court lawyer Shafique Ahmed passed away on Sunday evening at a hospital in Dhaka.
He was 88.
Family members said he died around 6pm at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.
His son, Mahbub Shafique, confirmed that he had been admitted to the hospital on 11 April with liver-related complications.
Shafique Ahmed served as the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister (technocrat) from 2009 to 2014 under the Awami League government.
During his long legal career, he also served as the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and as vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council.
His funeral arrangements will be announced later, the family said.
