AFM Solaiman Choudhury, the founder, convener, and former secretary of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), has resigned from the party and joined Jamaat-e-Islami. He formally joined Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday by filling out the form for associate membership.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim confirmed the matter on Sunday.
Prior to this, last Thursday, AFM Solaiman Choudhury explained the reasons for his resignation from the AB Party on Facebook, stating: “The AB Party has turned into a Dhaka-centric political party. The party has no public engagement anywhere in the country; rather, day by day, leaders from various districts of the AB Party are resigning and leaving. In other words, the AB Party has moved far away from serving the people, working for people’s rights, and solving problems. He alleged that he was only nominally kept as an advisor.”
AFM Solaiman Choudhury joined the Islamic Chhatra Sangha in 1964. He joined Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in October 1975. He became a Rukan of Jamaat in January 1976. That same year, he was appointed as the Central Health Affairs Secretary.
AFM Solaiman Choudhury joined the post of Assistant Commissioner in March 1979 after passing the BCS examination. While serving as the District Administrator in Feni, he gained widespread attention for leading an operation against Joynal Hazari. Later, he served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue.
After retiring from government service in 2007, he rejoined Jamaat-e-Islami. Solaiman Choudhury was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Majlis-e-Shura and held the responsibility of President of the party’s professionals’ organisation, the National Professionals Forum.
In 2019, he resigned from Jamaat-e-Islami and joined the AB Party, only to return last Saturday.
