Five Bangladeshi expatriates from Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila were among six people killed in a tragic road accident in Qatar on Saturday morning, local sources said.

The accident occurred in the Al Shahaniya area when the driver of a van carrying the expatriates lost control, causing the vehicle to crash. All six occupants died at the scene.

The deceased Bangladeshis were identified as Jasim Uddin, Jibal Uddin, Mostak Ahmed, Jubayer Ahmed, and Kader Ahmed from the Gachhbari area of Kanaighat upazila. The sixth victim was an Indian national who was driving the vehicle.

According to family and local sources, the expatriates were travelling to their workplaces when the accident took place.

After the accident, local authorities recovered the bodies and placed them in the morgue of a hospital in Qatar.

Ahmed Malek, General Secretary of the Jalalabad Association Qatar, said constant communication is being maintained with the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar.

“Arrangements are being made to send the bodies of the five deceased expatriates back to the country as soon as possible after completing necessary legal procedures,” he said.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community in Kanaighat, where the families of the deceased are awaiting the return of their loved ones. Concerned authorities are working to expedite the repatriation process.
