Measles infections continue to rise across the country, with five more deaths reported in the last 24 hours from suspected cases, all linked to measles-related complications.
During the same period, 826 new suspected cases showed measles symptoms nationwide, while laboratory tests confirmed infection in 51 patients, according to a health bulletin issued on Thursday by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
The new deaths and cases were recorded between 8:00am on May 27 and 8:00am on May 28.
DGHS data shows that since March 15 to May 28, 2026, a total of 67,905 suspected measles cases have been identified across the country. Laboratory-confirmed cases stand at 8,885.
During the same period, 477 suspected deaths have been reported, while 88 deaths were confirmed as measles-related. The total measles-linked death toll now stands at 565.
The bulletin says Dhaka division continues to record the highest number of infections and deaths compared to other divisions.
Since March 15, a total of 54,182 measles patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide. Of them, 719 were newly admitted in the last 24 hours.
So far, 50,926 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, including 1,023 in the last 24 hours.
Division-wise data shows Dhaka leading with 32,072 suspected cases and 6,165 confirmed cases. Chattogram reported 10,996 suspected and 667 confirmed cases. Rajshahi recorded 6,235 suspected and 1,112 confirmed cases. Barishal reported 5,961 suspected and 254 confirmed cases. Khulna recorded 5,069 suspected and 254 confirmed cases. Sylhet reported 3,413 suspected and 164 confirmed cases. Mymensingh recorded 2,835 suspected and 203 confirmed cases, while Rangpur reported 1,324 suspected and 66 confirmed cases.
Death statistics also show Dhaka division as the worst affected, with a total of 241 deaths so far, including 189 suspected and 52 confirmed cases. Rajshahi reported 86 deaths, Sylhet 58, Barishal 55, Chattogram 54, Mymensingh 44, Khulna 21 and Rangpur six deaths.
Among the five new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, three were from Dhaka division, one from Sylhet and one from Barishal.
To contain the outbreak, the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Programme 2026 continues across the country.
