The annual five-day ‘Jor Ijtema’, a preparatory congregation ahead of the Bishwa Ijtema, has began on the banks of the Turag in Tongi.

Organised by the Shura-e-Nizam faction of Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh (Jobayer group), the gathering will continue until midday on Tuesday, confirmed media coordinator Habibullah Raihan.

Raihan said the ijtema takes place roughly 40 days before the Bishwa Ijtema each year as part of the organisational preparations. The event allows Tabligh members and chillah participants from both Bangladesh and abroad to review their yearly activities and seek direction from senior leaders.

Members and senior companions of the Shura-e-Nizam group have already begun arriving at the tin-roofed mosque situated on the north-eastern side of the Ijtema ground.

Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Harun-or-Rashid said the Jobayer faction’s ‘ijtema will formally begin after Fajr on Friday and conclude on 2 December.

He added that additional law enforcement personnel will be deployed throughout the five-day event to ensure safety and smooth movement for all attendees.
