Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brig Gen Muhammad Jahed Kamal, ndc, afwc, psc has instructed personnel to place professional responsibilities above all other considerations, citing the agency’s role in protecting lives and property.
He made the call at the Director General’s Commendation ceremony at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters on 19 July, where 136 officers and employees from across Bangladesh received insignia, certificates and cash awards for exceptional administrative and operational contributions, said in a press release.
The programme began at 10:00 am after Director of Training, Planning and Development Lt Col M A Azad Anwar, psc formally received the Director General.
Before the ceremony, participants observed a minute’s silence in memory of recently deceased diver Sadik and prayed for the repose of his soul.
Religious instructor Muhaddis Kazi Sharifullah then recited from the holy scriptures, formally opening the programme.
Lt Col Azad Anwar delivered the welcome address before the Director General presented the commendations to the 136 selected recipients.
Two of the recipients spoke about the recognition during the ceremony.
Zakir Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director in Netrokona district, thanked the Director General for introducing the commendation award.
He also praised the Director General’s supervision of administrative and operational activities across the country and expressed gratitude for his leadership.
Director of Administration and Finance Md Shahid Atahar Hossain also addressed the programme.
In his speech as chief guest, Brig Gen Jahed Kamal expressed satisfaction with the Fire Service’s emergency responses and operational activities during accidents and disasters across Bangladesh.
He specifically praised the agency’s work during floods and landslides in the Chattogram region.
“As a service-oriented institution, the Fire Service and Civil Defence must give the highest priority to the discharge of its professional duties,” he said, emphasising the protection of lives and property.
Director of Operations and Maintenance Lt Col Md Mahmudul Hasan, psc urged personnel to exercise caution when using social media.
Project directors, the Managing Director of the Welfare Trust and officers and employees of all levels stationed in Dhaka attended the event in person.
Divisional Deputy Directors and district officers from across the country joined online from their respective workplaces.
The programme concluded at 12:30 pm.
