A devastating fire broke out at a garage and an ice factory in the Nadda area of the capital early Wednesday, destroying four private cars and the household belongings of several families.

The blaze began around 6am on 25 February. Six units of the Fire Service managed to bring the flames under control after a one-and-a-half-hour effort.

While an adjacent building was narrowly saved from the inferno, the furniture in several rooms belonging to multiple families was reduced to ashes.

Around six families have been left destitute by the incident. The owners of the garage and ice factory claim that the financial losses incurred exceed Tk4 crore.

The Fire Service has not yet determined the primary cause of the fire. However, the garage owner and local residents suspect the blaze may have been triggered by a short circuit or an air conditioner (AC) explosion.
