Artist Fareena Samhee Nethee has turned personal experience into a visual exploration of emotion with her debut solo exhibition titled “Silent Expressions,” which opened on Friday at Batighar Art Space in Dhaka’s Banani.
Organised by Mongol Deep Foundation, the 10-day exhibition features 61 acrylic paintings exploring how emotions can be communicated beyond spoken language. The exhibition is supported by Vertex Chambers and SAJIDA Foundation, according to a press release.
The showcase presents Fareena’s journey as a hearing-impaired artist who has developed her creative practice through specialised workshops and participation in national and international exhibitions. Her works use colour, form and movement to express emotions that often remain beyond words.
Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan Country Managing Director Rubaba Dowla inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest. She said complex human emotions cannot always be expressed through words and the exhibition demonstrates how art can communicate those feelings.
Veteran actor and painter Afzal Hossain and Gallery Chitrak Executive Director Md Muniruzzaman attended the opening as special guests.
Hossain said human expression extends beyond verbal communication and encouraged visitors to experience the artworks through emotions and interpretation rather than language alone.
Vertex Chambers Barrister Junayed Chowdhury and SAJIDA Foundation Barrister Sajeda Farisa Kabir attended the event, while Mongol Deep Foundation was represented by Chairperson Sara Zaker and Executive Director Sriya Sharbojoya.
Curated by Asiatic Marketing and Communications Ltd Art Director Faridur Rahman Razib, “Silent Expressions” reflects Fareena’s belief that canvas and colour can become a language of their own.
The paintings use vibrant hues and expressive forms to create a space where meaning emerges through visual experience.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors daily from 4:00pm to 8:00pm until 10 August 2026 at Asiatic Centre’s Batighar Art Space.
