The accidental death case of the late popular actor Salman Shah has been reclassified as a murder case by court order. The murder case was filed by the actor’s maternal uncle, Alamgir Kumkum, on October 21.
11 people, including film producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Salman’s ex-wife Sameera and stuntman Don, have been named as accused in the case. Fans of Salman Shah have put up posters across Dhaka demanding the arrest of those accused.
Posters have appeared in FDC, Karwan Bazar, Moghbazar and Gulistan. The images of Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Sameera, Don and Salman’s mother-in-law, Latifa Haque Lucy, have been used on the posters.
Salman Shah fan Masud Rana Naqib, involved in the poster campaign, said, “We want a proper trial for the murder of the immortal hero Salman Shah. Those responsible for ending the life of this film star must be punished. This is necessary to protect our love and respect for Salman Shah.”
He added, “Most of the accused are in the country. Even so, the police have been unable to locate them, which is disheartening. They should be found and brought to justice as soon as possible.”
On September 6, 1996, Salman Shah’s body was discovered hanging from a fan in his Eskaton residence in Dhaka. Following his death, multiple agencies, including the police, CID, RAB and PBI conducted investigations. Although all reports initially concluded the incident was a suicide, the investigating agency was changed repeatedly due to objections from Salman’s family.
In his brief life of just 25 years, Salman Shah acted in 27 films, all commercially successful. In the 1990s, he set a new trend for romantic heroes in Bangladeshi cinema.
Hits such as ‘Keyamat Theke Keyamat’, ‘Shopner Prithibi’, ‘Ontore Ontore’, ‘Bikkhov’, ‘Chaowa Theke Paowa’ and ‘Prem Juddho’ dominated the box office.
