Three people including two women were killed in separate incidents of family violence and land disputes over three days in Faridpur.
The incidents occurred in Alfadanga, Boalmari, Bhanga, Saltha and Sadarpur upazilas from Wednesday morning to Friday evening.
Fuljan Begum, 60, was killed in an attack by her son in Alfadanga; Firoza Begum, 71, was beaten to death in Boalmari; and Sirajul Islam, 57, was allegedly killed in a dispute over cutting trees in Sadarpur.
The latest incident took place Friday evening in Char Chandpur village of Char Bishnupur union, Sadarpur, where Sirajul was beaten to death by nephews. Masud Rana, 40, was also injured in the attack.
Police said Sirajul worked at a private company in Manikganj. He found several trees cut when returned home. When he asked nephew Suman about it, an argument started between them. Suman, 40, and his brother Tushar, 32, allegedly assaulted Sirajul with a hammer and wooden sticks.
Masud tried to intervene and was injured with sharp weapons. Family members took Sirajul to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Sadarpur Police Station’s Officer‑in‑charge Md Abdul Al Mamun Shah said no complaint had yet been filed. “Legal action will be taken if a case is lodged,” he said.
Alfadanga police said on the Eid day, Fuljan was planting saplings in front of her house when a quarrel broke out. Her son struck her on the head with a spade, leaving her dead on the spot.
Police later arrested the accused son.
Meanwhile, on the day before the Eid in Boalmari’s Bonchaki village, Firoza was beaten to death in a land dispute. Police and family sources said she had long been in conflict with neighbour Tulu Mia’s family over inherited property.
Though the court ruled in her favour, Tulu Mia’s family occupied the land. On Wednesday, when she tried to build a toilet there, Tulu, his brother Bachchu Mia, Rasul Mia and Bachchu’s son Bappi Mia allegedly assaulted her.
She was taken to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead. Boalmari Police Statiopn Officer‑in‑charge Md Anwar Hossain said legal steps will be taken after investigation.
