The bodies of six newborns who died at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on Wednesday morning were handed over to their families without autopsy following police permission, officials said.
Inspector (Investigation) of Ramna Police Station Ashiq Iqbal confirmed that the bodies were released after obtaining necessary approval from law enforcement authorities.
Meanwhile, a high-level investigation committee has been formed to probe the deaths of the six newborns.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas said the committee will look into possible lapses in hospital management, shortcomings in treatment, and any environmental factors related to the room where the newborns were kept.
He added that the committee has been asked to submit its report within 72 hours, after which the government will take strict action based on the findings.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, six newborns died at the hospital under circumstances that prompted the authorities to launch an official investigation.
