BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has questioned why there is so much injustice in a country with so many Muslims, so many mosques, and so many imams, Alems, and ulama.
He raised the question at a discussion organised by the Moushik Caretaker Kalyan Parishad, held at the city’s Institute of Diploma Engineers’ Multipurpose Hall on Saturday.
Fakhrul added, “Why so much sin? Why do people steal so much, commit so much corruption? Where does the enthusiasm go that people have for building a mosque, when it comes to becoming a good human being?”
The BNP leader pointed out, “For the last 15-16 years, the country had a monstrous, terrifying government. In their quest to install their own people, party people, they destroyed every state institution.”
“The people of the country do not understand the PR [Proportional Representation] system. They cannot understand the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ of the referendum. They will not be able to understand this even on the very final day.”
He added, “Jamaat-e-Islami has not done anything tangible against fascism in the last ten years. After talking about PR for so long, they are now softening their stance and preparing for the election.”
Fakhrul also commented that Islam does not support using religion for political gain.
The meeting was chaired by Principal Maulana Shah Md Nesarul Haque, governor of the Islamic Foundation Board. Maulana Mohammad Mohiuddin, Khatib and Imam of Residential Model College, also spoke at the event.
