US President Donald Trump has generated significant online attention by posting an artificial intelligence-created video depicting him playing football with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo within the White House premises.
The video, shared on Trump’s official Instagram account on Thursday, emerged shortly after the two personalities met during a formal dinner. Accompanying the clip, Trump described Ronaldo as a “GREAT GUY” and expressed his appreciation for their meeting at the presidential residence, adding that the athlete was “Really smart, and cool!!!”
The digitally fabricated footage portrays the president and the footballer engaged in a keep-up session, showcasing headers and dribbles within the Oval Office setting. At one point, Trump is seen turning to intercept the ball before kicking it towards the viewer.
The post rapidly gained traction, amassing nearly 34 million views and sparking thousands of comments. Social media users responded with a mix of amusement and disbelief at the unconventional content.
One user remarked on the comedic aspect of “Trump bending to head the ball,” while another quipped, “Haters will say it’s AI.” A third comment highlighted the surreal nature of the post, noting, “Bro, I really thought this was a meme page. This is the president of the USA. Lol.”
Prior to Trump’s post, Ronaldo had shared photographs with the US president on his own social media, accompanied by his partner Georgina Rodriguez. In his post, the footballer expressed gratitude for the invitation and the warm reception from the President and First Lady.
He further stated his readiness “to do my part as we inspire new generations to build a future defined by courage, responsibility and lasting peace.”
Their meeting occurred during a state dinner honouring Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During his address, Trump revealed that his youngest son, Barron, is a devoted admirer of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and had the opportunity to meet him.
“Barron got to meet him. And I think he respects his father a little bit more, now, just the fact that I introduced you,” the President commented during the event, acknowledging Ronaldo’s presence among the distinguished guests seated in the East Room.
