BNP Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has said the party’s nominee for the next president will be finalised during an upcoming meeting of BNP standing committee.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday following the conclusion of the annual planning conference at Bogra Rural Development Academy, where he attended as the chief guest.
Fakhrul declined to disclose whether a presidential candidate would be selected from within the party or from outside. Moreover, he refused to comment on reports suggesting his own name was being considered for the position or whether he had any personal interest in the role.
The annual planning conference was presided over by Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury, secretary of Rural Development and Co-operatives Division.
Other notable speakers at the event included local Members of Parliament G M Siraj, Mosharraf Hossain, and Suraiya Jerin Rony.
Also in attendance were Rafiqul Mohamed, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, members of the Board of Governors, and Abdul Majid Pramanik, Director General of the Rural Development Academy.
