The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested the admin of a Facebook group on charges of online fraud and misuse of information technology in the name of selling tickets for singer Atif Aslam’s concert.
The accused, Md Bakhtiar Abid Khan, 21, son of Abdul Khalek Khan, is a resident of Malibagh Chowdhuripara, Khilgaon, Dhaka.
Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc are set to host Atif Aslam’s concert on 24 July at the Cricketers Academy on 300 Feet Road, Purbachal. For ticket sales, the organisers partnered with GetMyTicket.live and began promotion on Main Stage Inc’s Facebook page on 8 July.
Soon after, they discovered that a Facebook group named Bangladesh Concert and Event Connects (BCEC) was posting advertisements using images of tickets from a previously cancelled concert, falsely promoting them as tickets for the upcoming show.
According to the complaint, when contacted, group admin Abid Khan demanded Tk100,000 instead of removing the posts.
He allegedly threatened to continue approving such posts and harm the business and reputation of Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc if the money was not paid.
Following this, organiser Nisha Mahbuba Salam filed a case at Paltan Police Station on 15 July under the Cyber Security Act, 2026.
CID later identified the suspect’s location using technology and intelligence. On 16 July, a raid was conducted in Malibagh Chowdhuripara, Dhaka, leading to Khan’s arrest. An iPhone 11 was seized from him.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to being the admin of the Bangladesh Concert and Event Connects (BCEC) group and confirmed he used the Facebook ID “Ak Abid Khan.”
The suspect has been sent to court, and investigation into the case is ongoing.
