Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim has stated that a certain quarter is intentionally spreading propaganda to raise questions about the integrity of International Crimes Tribunal’s (ICT).

In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, he noted that such campaigns aim to tarnish the reputation of every member of the prosecution team, which would ultimately benefit those responsible for genocide.

Tamim dismissed reports appearing in some media outlets and on social media that cited another prosecutor to spread “false and misleading” information about him. He described these claims as “completely baseless, motivated, and fabricated,” asserting that they are being spread out of personal vendetta.

“I firmly state that no one will be able to prove any of the allegations brought against me,” Tamim said.

He highlighted that the prosecution team, under the leadership of former Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, has received widespread domestic and international acclaim for its conduct of the trials concerning the July genocide and enforced disappearances.

He argued that this success is precisely why a quarter is conducting a planned smear campaign to bring the tribunal’s proceedings into question.

Tamim further claimed that spreading such propaganda during the departure of former Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam undermines the reputation of every member of the ICT prosecution team.

According to the prosecutor, such actions benefit perpetrators of genocide while causing overall harm to the martyrs and victims of the July mass uprising. He concluded by calling for an end to such “lies and loathsome activities.”
