A 70-year-old woman died after being electrocuted at her residence in Chandraabaj village under Bakshiganj upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mosammat Shamsunnahar, wife of the late Arjahan, of the same village.
According to the victim’s relatives, a religious gathering (women’s talim) had been organised at Shamsunnahar’s home on Friday night.

After the guests departed, the elderly woman went to tidy a hanging electric wire of an outdoor light sometime between 12:30am and 8:20am. She accidentally came into contact with a live, exposed wire and was electrocuted. Her family discovered her body on Saturday morning.

Bakshiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Makbul Hossain confirmed the incident. He said the body was handed over to the family following legal formalities, as no complaint had been filed.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the local community, where Shamsunnahar was known for her piety.
