Education Adviser CR Abrar has stated that specialists and policymakers must collaborate in order to fight against climate change and other environmental crises.
He said, “Veterinarians, food scientists, fisheries experts, biotechnologists, and policymakers must work together to tackle climate change, emerging diseases, and environmental crises.”
CR Abrar made these remarks while joining online at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day International Scientific Conference 2025 at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) on Sunday.
Regarding the host institution, the education adviser said, “CVASU is not only producing skilled veterinarians; it is also playing a crucial role in producing safe and nutritious food, and in developing the blue economy and sustainable aquaculture technologies.”
He further stated, “Currently, CVASU has truly become a centre of excellence – it is not just an academic institution, but a hub for innovation, applied research, and partnership with industry.”
Earlier, at the event presided over by CVASU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Lutfar Rahman, the special guests were Sylhet Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md. Alimul Islam and State University of Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain Khan.
The keynote paper at the inaugural session was presented by the UK’s renowned veterinary epidemiologist and Emeritus Professor Dr Alasdair Alex J Cook. The welcome address was delivered by the conference convener and Director of the One Health Institute, Professor Dr Md Ahsanul Haq.
In his presidential speech, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Lutfar Rahman said that global challenges like climate change, food security, and emerging diseases cannot be tackled by working in isolation. He called for building new collaborations through the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences to address this.
Over 500 researchers from various universities and research institutions in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, and the UK are participating in the three-day conference.
The conference will see 160 papers being presented with Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar present as chief guest at the closing ceremony on 28 October at 4pm.
